With the expert team at Mission Edge and my assigned mentor, Jabez LeBret, I have been able to chart the path forward for Sunlight Retreats for Survivors of Rape with expert advice and education. I now have a clear understanding of what I need to do to grow a thriving Social Enterprise.”
This is the first cohort of Mission Edge’s City SAIL program, in partnership with the City of San Diego. The program is designed to equip mission-driven organizations within San Diego city limits with the strategy and skills necessary to develop sustainable, revenue-based business models that accelerate social impact and promote economic and workforce development. Through a rich curriculum including workshops, lectures and mentorships, Mission Edge equips social entrepreneurs with the skills necessary to build, test, and launch their ideas.
The organizations who completed the nine-week program include:
Autism Proximal Innovations
Champions for Total Health
The work Mission Edge does with SAIL participants doesn’t stop with SAIL. Once the accelerator is complete, cohort members are invited to the Impact Lab, where they receive additional services. “The Impact Lab is designed to help these organizations go from idea to execution,” says Mission Edge CEO Ken Davenport. “We provide mentoring, operational support and access to business development opportunities so these organizations can scale.”
Brittany Kirk expresses her excitement about having the opportunity to continue to grow Sunlight Retreats and monitor her progress. “The best part is— [City SAIL] is not over! I fully intend on taking advantage of the Impact Lab moving forward and connecting with future cohorts.”, says Kirk.
City SAIL was funded in whole or in part with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to the City of San Diego. Additional City SAIL support was provided by the generosity of Qualcomm Inc. and Cox Communications.
