1. MissionEdge.org Privacy Policy 

This Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) describes Mission Edge San Diego’s (“MESD,” or “we” or “our”) practices with information that we (or our service providers) collect from a user (“you”) through our websites, applications, and our other network-connected products (collectively, the “Site”).  This Policy only addresses information collected directly through our Site. It does not address or govern any information collected through telephone, facsimile, postal mail, personal delivery, or other offline means. When you interact with the Site, we may collect information about you as described below. We reserve the right to change this Policy any time. By using the Site, you consent to and our bound by this Policy, as amended, as well as our Terms of Use [link].

2. What Information Do We collect? 

Some elements of the Site may ask you to actively provide your name, address, phone number, email address, location, credit card or other payment information, or other personal information about you (collectively, your “Personal Information”.) Personal Information also includes information passively provided to us by your web browser or internet provider, such as your IP address and geolocation. We collect your Personal Information for you to benefit from the specified features or participate in a certain activity, such as placing an order, subscribing to a newsletter or service, or making a donation.  For example, if you register for an account on the Site, we may request Personal Information such as your name and contact information.  If you make a donation using the Site, we may collect your credit or debit card or other financial account information.  When you perform a search within the Site, we may record information identifying you or linking you to the search performed and recording information related to the search request.  We may combine Personal Information you submit through the Site with other Personal Information we have collected from you, whether online or offline. 

3. How Do We Use Your Information? 

We use Personal Information submitted by you or otherwise collected through the Site and through other sources for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and as otherwise described to you at the point of collection.  Generally, we use the information you provide to us for the reason for which it was provided. For example, if you sign up to receive email notifications, we will contact you by email.  If you provide us with information to make a donation, we will use the information to process your donation.  Specifically, we may use Personal Information from or about you: 

i. to respond to your inquiries and to send you information that you request and to process your donations; 

ii. to send you important information regarding our relationship with you or regarding the Site, changes to our terms, conditions, and policies, and other administrative information; 

iii. to notify you about upcoming events; 

iv. to promote our mission and initiatives, and the missions and initiatives of our affiliates;  

v. for our business purposes, such as data analysis, audits, recordkeeping, developing new products or services, enhancing the Site, improving our services, identifying Site usage trends, optimizing your experience on the Site, and determining the effectiveness of our fundraising campaigns; 

vi. if you choose to complete a survey, we may use the information for purposes of evaluating your feedback from the survey; and 

vii. if we intend to collect and use Personal Information for another purpose, we may seek your permission at the time the information is collected. 

We may use any information that does not personally identify you, your computer, or your device for any purpose. We may use automated processing of your Personal Information to tailor our communications with you and manage our relationships with our donors and contacts.  This automated processing may impact the type of communications you receive from us. We also aggregate information to track trends and analyze use patterns on the site. We may use personal information and other information about you to create de-identified and aggregated information, such as de-identified demographic information, de-identified location information, information about the computer or device from which you access the Site and MESD services. All your Personal Information is stored within the United States. By using the Site you consent to receiving electronic correspondence in accordance with this Policy, unless you opt out at a later date.

4. How Do We Protect Your Personal Information? 

Our website is scanned on a regular basis for security holes and known vulnerabilities to make your visit to our site as safe as possible. No website can ever be completely safe, but MESD will take reasonable steps to protect your Personal Information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. 

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. 

We implement a variety of security measures when a user enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your personal information. All transactions are processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers. 

If a data breach occurs that MESD reasonably believes compromises your Personal Information, we will notify you as soon as practically possible. 

5. Do We Use “Cookies”? 

Like many organizations, our Site uses “cookies” to help make sure the Site is meeting the needs of its users and to help us make improvements. Cookies are bits of text that are placed on your device when you visit certain websites.  We may use cookies set by us on the Site to tell us, for example, whether you have visited us before or if you are a new visitor.  We use third-party cookies set by our service provider, Google Analytics, to collect information about how visitors use the Site, including how long you spend on each page, and how you got to the Site.  We do not use data collected by cookies to identify who you are.  We do not allow Google to use or share our analytics data. 

You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through your browser (like Google Chrome) settings. Each browser is a little different, so look at your browser’s Help menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies. 

If you disable cookies, some Site functionality may be limited.

We also use log files. The information inside log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, type of browser, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages, clicked pages and any other information your browser may send to us. We use such information to analyze trends, administer the Site, track users’ movement around the Site, and gather demographic information

6. Do We Share Your Personal Information?

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personal Information except for with our affiliate organizations in accordance with this Policy or in accordance with information provided to you at time of information collection. 

Additionally, we may share your Personal Information to the companies or individuals that we hire to provide services and maintain the Site, as well as to a third party in the event of any company merger or sale.

Lastly, we may disclose your Personal Information: (i) as required by applicable law, including laws outside your country of residence; (ii) to comply with legal process; (iii) to respond to requests from public and government authorities, including public and government authorities outside your country of residence; (iv) to enforce our terms and conditions; (v) to protect our operations or those of any of our affiliates; (vi) to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you, or others; and (vii) to allow us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain. 

7 . Third-Party Links

We do not include or offer third-party products or services on Site, but if the Site has links to third-party websites, any information you disclose on that website is not subject to this Privacy Policy. MESD does not control third parties’ use of cookies, collection of information, or how they manage such information.  It is your obligation to review and understand the privacy policies of any third party. 

8. Google 

We use Google Analytics, which is provided by Google Inc.  Google Analytics leverages cookies and other technologies that are stored in a website visitor’s browser, app or device to do things such as allow visitors to access features that are fundamental to a service, to help sites and apps understand how their visitors engage with their service, to enhance a return visitor’s experience by providing personalized content and features, etc. For example, Google Analytics’ cookies collect information about the operating system and the browser that you use, your IP address, the website you previously accessed (referrer URL) and the date and time of your visit to the Websites.  On subsequent repeated visits to the Websites, frequently used information is automatically displayed for you.  We are able to track your usage patterns with the help of the cookies.  The information generated by cookies and other technologies about the use of the Websites is transmitted to a Google server, which may be https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies?hl=en-US  to learn more about Google Analytics’ use of cookies. We may use other third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) or other third-party identifiers to compile data regarding your interactions with ad impressions and with the Site. 

9. Opting Out

Users can set preferences for how Google advertises to you using the Google Ad Settings page. Alternatively, you can opt out by visiting the Network Advertising initiative opt out page or permanently using the Google Analytics Opt Out Browser add on. 

If you are within the European Union, you have the right to: 

  • Request access to your Personal Information.   

  • Request that MESD not subject your Personal Information to automated processing. 

  • Obtain from MESD the erasure or the restriction of processing of your Personal Information in certain circumstances, including when your Personal Information is no longer necessary in relation to the purposes for which they were collected or otherwise processed, except when MESD is required by law to maintain it.   

  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU Member State of your habitual residence, place of work, or place of an alleged infringement of the applicable data protection law. However, we encourage you to contact us first.

10. Children

The Site is not intended for persons under the age of 16.  We do not knowingly collect Personal Information online from persons under age 16.  We reserve the right to delete any information identified as having been provided by such persons at our discretion. We do not specifically market to children under 16. 

  1. CAN-SPAM Act 

The CAN-SPAM Act is a law that sets the rules for commercial email, establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have emails stopped from being sent to them, and spells out tough penalties for violations. 

We collect your email address to send information, respond to inquiries, and/or other requests or questions. To be in accordance with CAN-SPAM we agree to the following: 

  1. Not to use false or misleading subjects or email addresses;

  2. Identify the message as an advertisement in some reasonable way;

  3. Include the physical address of our business or site headquarters;

  4. Monitor third party email marketing services for compliance, if one is used;

  5. Honor opt-out/unsubscribe requests quickly; and

  6. Allow users to unsubscribe by using the link at the bottom of each email.

If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, you can email us at info@missionedgesd.org  and we will promptly remove you from such correspondence.
