How This Brazilian Food Business Streamlined Its Offerings

Mission Edge helped Jane and Eduardo Porcel find more clarity in their business

How This Brazilian Food Business Streamlined Its Offerings

Jane and Eduardo Porcel started Brazuca Bites with the dream of bringing the food of their country to the United States.

They’ve been serving up coxinhas (chicken croquettes), bolinhas de queijo (cheese balls), Brazilian pão de queijo (cheese bread) and stuffed churros to folks in San Diego County.

When Jane and Eduardo started working with us, they were at a pivotal point in their business — as they started to grow, they needed guidance on how to strengthen their finances so they could continue “serving up love in the form of flavor.”

The Problem

Due to their expertise in Brazilian cuisine, Jane and Eduardo had no problem coming up with a large variety of products to offer their customers.

But over time, they began to have difficulties keeping up with inventory management and allocating their time between all of their different offerings.

Jane and Eduardo needed some help figuring out how to prioritize their time in order to break even and sustain their success.

They also lacked a clear financial plan, and as a result, they struggled to balance their checkbooks by breaking even each month.

Where mission edge came in

We paired the Porcels with a finance expert who sat down with them for a detailed discussion and analysis of their product lines, sales channels and market traction.

Together, they were able to create a financial model that helped them determine their sales targets and profitability, as well as hone in on which sales channels were most profitable given their corresponding expenses.

With a newly solid foundation, we were able to help them evaluate potential opportunities for expansion, including a new kitchen site!

The solution

After working with Mission Edge, Jane and Eduardo had a more accurate perception of the costs involved with their business.

They were also better prepared to take on future growth opportunities.

They decided to streamline their product offerings and reduce inventory management time, and expand their presence in farmers’ markets. They’re even considering a move to a storefront.

Most of all, now, Jane and Eduardo are able to focus their efforts toward growing their income and their business.

You can see results, too

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the amount of ideas you want to pursue?

Maybe, like Jane and Eduardo, you have a lot of product offerings to keep track of. Or maybe you have a whole notebook of ideas for how to expand, but get overwhelmed when it comes time to pick one.
