The Majdal Center, nestled in the heart of San Diego, is more than just a community center; it’s a haven that seeks to empower all members of the Arab community in San Diego.
The center works to cultivate a communal identity based on a deep understanding of the rich histories and cultures present among it – while fostering an environment rooted in trust and support.
When the Majdal Center approached us, we immediately knew they’d be a great fit for Mission Edge’s fiscal sponsorship program due to a few specific challenges it faced.

Majdal Center faced a few obstacles that were preventing them from making the kind of impact they knew they could achieve within the San Diego area.
The center’s old fiscal sponsor was not able to support Majdal long-term, given the growth they were experiencing.
Majdal was looking for a deeper level of support related to payroll and overall HR services.
Majdal knew they were outgrowing their former fiscal sponsor, whose size was limiting them from securing larger funding opportunities.
These three main challenges not only impeded the Majdal Center’s operational efficiency, but curbed its potential to serve the community more effectively – and we knew our fiscal sponsorship program could help them.
Where Mission Edge’s Fiscal Sponsorship Came In
Majdal joined Mission Edge as a fiscally sponsored project in January 2022, when we began providing the center with custom-tailored HR support to best support its unique programs, staffing, and needs.
Here’s how our fiscal sponsorship program offered the support the Majdal Center needed to grow with clear goals and a vision:
We helped the Majdal Center enforce some changes to comply with employment law – which is never fun to do in the moment – but will be extremely beneficial for the center long-term as they strive to become an independent 501(c)(3).
We offered strategic insight and support to help the Majdal Center sell its building to a new owner.
We helped the center’s executive director navigate the natural complexities that come with growing the team of a small organization.

The center’s budget has increased nearly 25% year over year since joining.
They’ve secured a five-year lease on their space to ensure long-term presence in their community.
Every hour of support we are providing is one less hour the executive director, Ramah, has to spend running the nonprofit. (Meaning she’s able to spend more time doing what she’s best at, which is interacting with and impacting our community).
